AST6244
Universal Engine Support Tool
AST6244 securely
supports the engine & gearbox assembly in situations where the engine
mounting bracket needs to be temporarily removed from the vehicle.
This
versatile tool is typically used when undertaking tasks such as timing
belt/chain replacement, clutch replacement, alternator replacement and many
other common vehicle repairs.
AST6244 is
simple to operate; Firstly, connect the steel hook to the underside of the
vehicle, then adjust the jack pad and support bars to secure the tool to the
vehicle before raising the jack pad to release weight from the engine mounting
point.
Guide to use:
- Locate the central beam of the tool beneath the engine and gearbox and attach to the vehicle using the sturdy hook. Tighten the nut of the hook to raise the central crossbeam to the underside of the vehicle. For best results locate the hook in a suitable hole or anchorage point on the subframe as close as possible to the engine.
- Once the
central crossbeam is loosely fitted beneath the vehicle, raise the jack until
the pad is located on the underside of the engine.
- Adjust the threaded shafts at the rear of the support tool until both threaded shafts contact the body of the vehicle, taking care to avoid any critical components such as brake pipes, fuel lines and electronic components or wiring. The arms of the tool can be extended or retracted to access the most suitable location for each of the supports.
- Raise the
jack until the weight of the engine is fully supported by the tool.
AST6244
includes a strap & hook attachment for use when no suitable holes or
anchorage points are available beneath the engine. Ensure that the hooked end
of the strap is securely connected to the underside vehicle, then feed the
strap over the subframe until it is located in a suitable position beneath the
engine & gearbox assembly. Connect the central crossbeam to the looped
steel end of the strap. Adjust the jack pad and threaded support shafts as
normal.
Important
Notes:
- Ensure the tool is correctly fitted, secure and safe, before carrying out any work on the vehicle
- When using
the strap and hook, ensure that the strap is located in such a way that it
cannot move or slip when under load.
- The stated
safe working load of the tool (WLL) is 250Kg. While the tool is capable of
withstanding much higher loads, the WLL provides a margin of safety to the
user. Exceeding the WLL is not recommended.
